In Loving Memory of Freda Madeline McKay

May 8, 1974 – April 2, 2026

Freda was born to Vivian and Tache McKay of Berens River First Nation, where she grew up most of her life before moving to Hudson Bay, SK.  She later moved to IBR with her mom Vivian and her siblings Tina, June and Darren.  They all moved to Winnipeg to where Freda spent the rest of her life.

Freda leaves behind to mourn her passing, mother Vivian Brass and her 7 children; Terassalynn (James) McBrass; Skylynn McKay; Shylynn McKay sons Darren (poohBear) (Danielle) Quill-McKay; Kevin Cook-Mckay and his sons Kevin Jacob Jr. and Triniti Uniqui Dawn Sockaski-McKay; Devin (Hopper) Cook-McKay; Leonidas Stevens-McKay; brother Daren McKay and half brother Efram McKay.  She also leaves 15 grandchildren; 2 nephews and 2 nieces.

Freda loved all her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a loving caring woman and did her best to make people happy.

Freda is predeceased by her dad Tache McKay; step-dad Alex Brass; step-brother Joe Kline; sisters Tina McKay and June McKay; her niece Tashilynn Brass (McKay); nephew Darlus McKay; grandparents Alex Ross and Wilma Ross.

Wake services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., both at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.  Officiant will be Beverly Thomas.  Pallbearers:  Terassalynn McBrass, Skylynn McKay, Shylynn McKay, Darren Quill-McKay, Kevin Cook-McKay, Devin Cook-McKay, Lloyd Houle and Daniel Ross.
