Gary Ronald Johnson

Gary Ronald Johnson (75) of Winnipeg sadly passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2026. His family and friends while deeply heartbroken over this loss, will always remember Gary for the passions and laughter that he shared with the world

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; his daughter Alexandra; his sister, Karen (Jack) and his nephew, Bryan. He will also be remembered fondly by a large number of extended family and friends, including his mother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, 13 nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and great-nephews, and numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Russell, whom we continue to miss dearly every day since his untimely passing in 1997.

Gary had an extensive career with Canadian National Railway company, primarily working in the billing department at Symington Yard. His tenure at CN spanned an impressive 39 years before he retired in 2005. After retirement, Gary stayed in touch with former coworkers and friends at functions and monthly breakfasts.

Being passionate about sports, Gary loved playing both hockey and baseball throughout his entire life. Gary was also an avid Blue Bombers fan, rarely ever missing a game. He also loved spending time with family and friends, especially at gatherings with his cousins.

Without question, Gary was also a devoted and dedicated KISS fan.  He took great pride in portraying Starchild alongside the “Creatures of the Night Winnipeg” group at live events, where they would meet and take photos with fans.

Gary will undoubtedly be missed, but never forgotten, as we will always remember his warm spirit, his teasing nature and the love he had for those close to him.

A funeral service and reception will be held on May 5th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverly Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s memory may be made to The Compassionate Friends of Winnipeg (TCF), Special Olympics Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
