ANTONIO LUIS DIAS Obituary

ANTONIO DIAS

With great sadness and heavy heart we announce that Antonio Dias passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Friday, April 17, 2026, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Dias. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Maria Mendes (Jorge); his grandchildren, Christine Mendes (Jason) and Matthew Mendes (Kelsie); and his great-grandchildren, Antonia and Alina. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Portugal.

Antonio was predeceased by his son, Fernando Dias, whose memory he carried in his heart every day.

Antonio was born on October 15, 1937, in Algarve, Portugal. He married his beloved wife, Teresa, in 1960, and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on April 30. In 1970, they moved to Winnipeg, Canada, where they built their life together. Portugal always held a special place in his heart, and he returned many times over the years, most recently in 2018.

Antonio took great pride in working with his hands. A skilled mechanic and welder, he enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and took great joy in passing down his knowledge and skills to his son and grandson. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his beloved Shih Tzu, Porscha. Known for his playful sense of humour, he loved to dance and brought joy to those around him. Antonio had a heart of gold and could never said no to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride of his life.

The Dias and Mendes families would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Deer Lodge Centre PRIME Program and the staff at the Grace Hospital Unit 3 South for the wonderful care they provided in the last years of his life.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. N. on Wednesday, Apr. 22, 2026 at 12 noon with prayers before mass.  Interment will follow at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Antonio’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
