MARJORIE JACQUELINE KURYK Obituary

Marjorie Jacquline Kuryk (Fedoruk)

February 26, 1940 - April 8, 2026

After a brief illness Majorie passed away surrounded by family at Middlechurch Home.

Majorie leaves to mourn her daughter Susan; her son Richard (Heather); her grandchildren Tyler (Chantal), Ryan, Nicole, Nikolai, Jonah as well as her great-grandchildren Rori & Hayes.

Left to cherish Marjorie’s memory are her brother James (Diane) Fedoruk; brothers-in-law Robert  (Pat), Donald (Carole): sisters-in-law Lynne, Lydia and Heather as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Peter of 55 years; her parents Jacob and Mary Fedoruk; brother Robert; mother-in-law and father-in-law George and Doris Kuryk; brother-in-law George and nephew Andrew.

Marge was born in Winnipeg and lived on Mayfair during the great flood of 1950 where she attended Fort Rouge School. After the flood, the family relocated and she grew up on one of the original properties on Minnehaha Avenue and attended West St Paul School where she graduated in a class of only 11 students. She then took a Stenographer course at the Manitoba Technical Institute, worked at Purves Motors and Foster Advertising for a number of years before she stepped into the world of Sears. Marge ended up working at Sears for the better part of her life, enjoying her time with the ladies in the customer service department. She worked well into her retirement years and only retired when Sears ended up closing their stores in 2017. We joke that the store couldn’t go on without her there to work.

In her spare time Marge enjoyed bowling, ceramics for which she won several awards, volunteered many hours at Frank Whyte and Northwood Community Centres, played cards at St. Peter’s Church with a great group of ladies and golfing in ladies golf leagues at Kildonan Golf Course and Players. She was a big part in all her grandchildren’s lives taking in as many sporting events and dance recitals as possible.

Summers were spent at a rental cabin in Winnipeg Beach while her family was young where she would have late nights catching up with her sister-in-law, or reading her true crime books. In 2009, a family cabin was purchased in Sandy Hook where she could enjoy long weeks off from Sears with Peter, where they golfed, relaxed and spent time with her grandchildren.

After surviving a cervical cancer diagnosis in 2006, we were lucky enough to spend another 20 years with her.

A special thank you to her grandson, Ryan, for taking excellent care of her until she moved to Middlechurch Home this past January. He will cherish their one-on-one time while she lived in her apartment on Leila.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Marge’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.

Marge will be missed for her quick whit, sense of humour and generosity to all she met. We’re grateful for the care she received at Middlechurch.

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
