LORNE VICTOR TYSON Obituary

Lorne Victor Tyson

With sadness we announce that Lorne "T-Cona" Tyson has passed away at the age of 78 on February 24, 2026 in Winnipeg following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Toronto on July 29, 1947 to May (Round) and Charles Tyson. The young family then moved to Nakina, Ontario while Charles worked for the railway. There were many happy memories there and the family have returned occasionally; also in fact to visit the gravesite of May Tyson.

When Lorne was 9 years old the family moved to Winnipeg and settled in Transcona which then became Lorne's lifelong home. He married Joan De Jersey and together they raised three children. In the early days Lorne worked for the Winnipeg School Division in the audio/visual department, then for a while had his own electronics store and would also work as a DJ. He was always socially active and was a member of the Transcona Jaycees. He even got a license to use fireworks at events.

He was a proud Legion member and worked tirelessly for many years to maintain financial stability and provide enjoyment to the membership by dreaming up things to do. It was during an event planned and organised by Dave Tyson and Cam Wortman that he met his second wife, Sandy Wortman. He served in various roles including President and, after all his work over the years, he was given the honour of a lifetime membership by the Legion.

By then his working life was with Manitoba Lotteries where he started in the 1980s as a bingo manager. The bingo halls then upgraded to casinos and Lorne was of course there right from the start as a general manager. Being a people person, Lorne truly found his niche and loved his job.  He retired in 2007 and continued his favourite activity of socializing with his friends.

Lorne is survived by his wife Sandra, his children Charles (Rianne), Tania (Alex) and Jennifer (Marie).  He has five beautiful granddaughters: Kaylani, Nevaeh, Sykara, Taylor and Brooklyn. His siblings include Ron (Heather), Evelyn (Stan), Dave (Dorothy), Joe (Debbie) and Pam (Vince). He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Margaret (Gordie). He has other family members including nephews, nieces, cousins, etc. who are fondly remembered but unfortunately too numerous to be mentioned by name.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 1:00 pm, Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street, Transcona. Please be ready with your stories/anecdotes as there will be a sign-up sheet for speakers on the day. Interment will take place on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm, Transcona Cemetery, for family only, please. In lieu of flowers a general donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would be appreciated. Tributes to www.cropo.com.
