ALBERT BARTHOLOMEW CALVO Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Calvo.  Peacefully, with family by his side, Albert passed away on February 26, 2026 at the age of 78, in Winnipeg Manitoba.  Albert lived a life dedicated to his family, friends, and being the best person he could be.

Albert is honoured by his loving wife, Melody; daughters, Dawn (Tom) and Dallis (Bruce) and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Pedro and Soledad Calvo; and his two older brothers, Matthew (Judy) and Raymond (Patricia).

Albert was born in Winnipeg on November 15, 1947 and grew up in St Boniface as the youngest of 3 sons.  He was raised Catholic and never wavered from his faith.  He began his career with Canadian Pacific Railway in 1971, retiring in 2003, but only when the job was completed and the clock said it was ok to leave.  Albert was an impeccable employee who never missed a day and had many coworkers that openly respected him.  Following retirement, Albert continued to have part time jobs until 2023; the last of which was being a driver for Part Source where he continued to feel productive and gain new friends.

Albert was always one to get involved and help out.  Whether it be his church and perogy making crew, his curling league and the epic socials that were held, the Folklorama Ukrainian volunteer group, or helping and supporting family and friends.  He did so, at times, before ever being asked, was dependable and expected nothing in return.

To say Albert loved to dance is truly an understatement.  He would dance his wife around the dance floor like poetry in motion, and if his favorite bands, Sloohi and High Profile were playing, there was no stopping until the music did.  He and Melody were often seen dancing at the Forks, socials, old time dances and concerts to name a few.

Albert’s pastime love was golf.  He enjoyed nothing more that hitting the course before lunch and attempting to beat his last score. Soaking in the sun and walking the courses; perfecting his blazing tee offs and long distance putts, Albert was a true master of the game.

Albert and Melody enjoyed many yearly trips to Las Vegas where they would often meet up with his California relatives and friends.  He loved the busy city of Las Vegas, the lights, the shows, the food, the shopping, and let’s not forget…the golf courses.

The family thanks the staff at Riverview Personal Care Home for the care and friendship they provided Albert.

Funeral Liturgy will be held at Holy Eucharist Church on Watt and Munroe, on March 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.  Luncheon will be immediately after the service with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, for those that wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Albert would be pleased to have donations made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Alzheimer’s Society, the Winnipeg Humane Society or charity of your choice.

Albert was a kind and gentle soul, who would stop to help anyone and loved his family unconditionally.  His absence in our lives will be as immense as the blessing he was to all of us. Melody’s “endless love” will live on in our stories and memories forever.

We love you Al.  Bye for now.
