MARIA da CONCEIÇÃO CORREIA Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria (Connie).

Maria leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Manuel of 47 years; her children Nélia (Cory), Emanuel, and Célia (Jason); her grandchildren Ashley, Lilly, Sofia Maria, Sofia Alzira; and her great-grandchildren, Mahlena, Vienna and Liam. She is also survived by her sisters in the Azores, Lurdes, Rosa, and Delia as well as her many nieces, nephews and extended family both near and far.

Maria was predeceased by her father Manual (2010), her brother Duarte (2009) her mother Alzira (2021) and many cherished family members and friends throughout the years.

Maria was born in São Miguel, Azores September 22, 1955, to Alzira and Manuel Teves. She worked dutifully along side her family on their farm where she developed and excelled in skills such as sewing, crocheting, cooking, cleaning and gardening. From her parents, she learned the value of hard work—a value she carried with her unwaveringly until the very end of her life.

At the age of 19, Maria immigrated to Canada in November 1974 with her baby girl Nélia. With perseverance and the skills her parents instilled in her, she built a life in Canada. Here, she met and married Manuel and together they completed their family and shared a beautiful life.

Maria worked at Jessica Bridal for 25 years, managing the store and making bridal dreams come true with her exceptional seamstressing skills, one dress at a time.

Maria (Mãe) was the epitome of what it meant to be a devoted wife and mother. She worked tirelessly and sacrificed selflessly for her family. She found joy in singing folklore music, cooking, and baking, but her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her beloved “princesas.” They were her everything.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Maria’s caregivers throughout the years, and especially to those who cared for her during her final months in the hospital and nursing home. Christine, Paulette, Brittany, and Luisa, we deeply appreciate your kindness, compassion, and dedication. Mom was truly grateful and honored by your love and care. You are all deeply valued, and we thank you with all our hearts.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel (1442 Main Street, Winnipeg) with the burial being held at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery (3990 Portage Avenue) following the service.
