FRANCISCO JOSE VARGAS DOS REIS
Peacefully, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Francisco Jose Vargas dos Reis left us to rejoin his wife, Maria de Conceicao Reis and God. He was 72 years old.
Francisco was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Maria de Conceicao Reis; his parents Antonio Reis and Maria Lurdes; as well as his brothers Antonio Manuel and Carlos Alberto Reis. He was also predeceased by is father-in-law Raul Silveira and mother-in-law Maria Gilda Cardoso as well as his brothers-in-law Hildberto and Raul Cardoso, Eduardo Fonte and Eduardo Ferreira.
Left behind to always remember his kind and joyful soul is his son James Francisco Reis; his sister Ana Reis (Carlos Oliveira); nephew Michael Oliveira; niece Christine Oliveira and his niece Rachel Teller. His brothers-in-law; Mario and Jose Antonio Cardoso; sisters-in-law Lina Fonte, Odete (Jose Cardoso), Alzira (Jose Goulart), Diana (Eduardo Goulart), Adelaide (Jose Marcos), Carmen Cardoso and Ana (Jose Goncalves). His godchildren Marcio Goulart (Maria Amado), Bradley Fernandes and Cassandra Rodrigues. As well as many nieces and nephews both here in Canada, USA and The Azores, Portugal.
Dad was born in Horta, Faial, Azores on June 30, 1953. He will always be remembered by his outgoing, joyful kind spirit and demeanour. His ability to be a lending ear or offer up much needed advice on anything that troubled you. His warm smile and playful attitude always seemed to bring the best out of people, and that will forever be missed. He enjoyed camping and fishing throughout his life and was always up for a weekend adventure with my mom. Up before dawn and home later in the evening, sun burnt, and with many tales to tell. He was actively involved in the Azorean Cultural community with my mother through out most of his adult life, making many friends and memories along the way. A hard-working man who retired from Canadian Tool and Die after a 38-year career, in which he met many lifelong friends. He will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have made his acquaintance and have shared in his spirit.
May your soul be at peace Dad. I truly believe that you're at my mother’s side, enjoying a glass of wine and asking her for that dance once again.
We are still struggling to imagine a world in which you are no longer present Dad. We just have to remind ourselves that you're at peace now and that you've re-joined with your one and only Maria, and all the others who we've lost over the years. We have and will always love you. May your blessed soul rest in peace.
He is, was and will forever be loved.
Our family is thankful for the medical staff at Health Sciences Center for all their efforts and care taken with my dad.
Viewing and Prayers/Funeral will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin St. N. at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow in the Holy Angel Mausoleum at the Green Acres Cemetery, 1 Green Acres Ln, Navin, MB.
