MARTIN MIKOLAJCZYK Obituary

MARTIN MIKOLAJCZYK

October 30, 1942 - January 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Martin Mikolajczyk who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 83 after a brief battle with cancer.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Krystyna; his children, Lynda (Bogdan), Nancy (Darren) and Ted (Lark); his stepchildren, Jola (Marc) and Mariusz (Ewa).

He was a proud grandfather to Ami (Mike), Nicole (Yuriy), Natalia, Nicholas (Sabrina), Brendan, Jessica, Julia (Hunter) and Dylan and step-grandson Bartek (Magdalena). He was also a great-grandfather to Kianna, Kingston and Max; step-grandfather to Alexandra (Dane), Olivia, and Julia and step-great-grandfather to Matthew and Bruno. Martin is also survived by his brothers, Eddie and Richard; his sister, Jeanette (Howard) and nieces and nephews.

Martin was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Rose Mikolajczyk, his first wife Sophie Mikolajczyk.

Martin was born on October 30, 1942, in Bezmichowa, Poland. He came to Canada in 1957 at the young age of 16, beginning a new chapter filled with hard work and perseverance. He was employed with Manitoba Hydro before retiring at the age of 57.

Our father was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 246. He served on the Sick Committee for many years, dedicating his time to visit members who were ill and offer companionship, kindness, and support. This quiet service reflected his caring nature and his commitment to helping others.

Music was our father’s lifelong passion. A talented saxophone player, he played in many bands over the years and later formed his own band which he named Martin and the Boys. Through music, he connected with people, shared joy, and created memories that will be cherished by all who heard him play.

Dad had many interests. He loved spending time at the cabin surrounded by family, where laughter, music, and stories filled the days, and he especially loved going mushroom picking. He was an avid soccer player who played on many teams over the years, and later, when his playing days slowed down, he became a passionate fan cheering from the sidelines. He also loved a good game of ping-pong and would often enter tournaments, always bringing his focus and competitive spirit. In his younger years, he was a proud undefeated boxer—strong, determined, and full of heart. He was also a devoted hockey and football fan, always excited to watch a game whenever he could.

Our dad was known for his friendly, outgoing nature and his love of visiting with family and friends. He had an easy way of making people feel comfortable and welcome, and he delighted in meeting new people and forming friendships that often lasted a lifetime.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at Grace Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to our father.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Grace Hospice or a charity of your choice in Martin’s memory.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Holy Ghost Parish, 341 Selkirk Ave at 10:00 a.m., with Rosary beginning at 9:30 am.
