CHRISTINE ROSE HALISCHUK nee Maczuga

May 6, 1934 - January 22, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Christine Rose Halischuk on January 22, 2026 in Winnipeg with her son Terry and his wife Petra by her side.

She will greatly be missed by her son Terry (Petra) Halischuk and grandchildren Chrissy (Chris), Ashley (Jermaine), Jason, Lauren and Dylan. Her Great grand children Jenna, Brooke, Emily, Bryson, and Shylah, many nieces and nephews.

Christine was predeceased by her husband Joseph (2003), her son Garney (2023) and grandson Trevor (2022). Her parents Joseph and Lucy Maczuga, sisters Henrietta Szocik, Anna Becker, Josie Richardson and one sister little Wanda who died in Poland.

Christine was born May 6, 1934 in Trychubowa, Poland. She came to Canada in 1949 with her parents and sisters. She got married to Joseph in 1954. Two sons were born and they made their home in Winnipeg. Chris worked 32 years at Misericordia Hospital.

After retiring she had a little business making perogies. She was very famous for her Perogies and Perishky. Christine was an amazing cook; she loved to cook for her family and friends. She liked her garden(roses) and really enjoyed playing Bingo and playing cards. The last few years of her life she spent living with her son, Terry and his family. When she moved in two dogs became her friend Riley and Harley. Riley kept her warm and Harley would visit and sing to her. Arthritis played a big part and she would get bored So her son and her keep the job of doing the dishes He washed she dried. She was very proud to do this job with him. She looked forward to doing her part while she could. Many of her family and friends came to visit her She loved them all. She was able to get a few road trips in the summer and best of all to go and meet for lunch at a restaurant.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Health Sciences Centre, as well as all the extended family and friends who offered their thoughts and prayers for Christine.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Avenue.
