Vance J. Gatti

November 16, 1936 – January 7, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vance J. Gatti on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the age of 89.

Vance passed away peacefully after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Gail (nee Johnson); children, Michelle (Roy), Vincent (Twyla) and Gary (Nikki); niece Allson DePauw (Ken); nieces Linda, Carol and Nephew John.

He also leaves his grandchildren Serena, Ambra (Michael), Mack, Araya (Richard), Madalynne, Juniper and Santino will miss him dearly. 

He was pre-deceased by his parents Mose and Josephine (nee Brescasin); siblings Rose, Carmella (Carms), Enes and Joseph (Joe); nephew Paul and Son Michael.

Vance was born in Transcona on November 16, 1936 and was a lifelong resident of Transcona. Always an active member of the community. He was very involved with the church and a third-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.  He was an athlete and coach in both hockey and baseball.  Vance had a childhood skating accident that cost him the sight in his right eye, but Vance continued to excel in sports. He proudly played baseball with the Transcona Trojans as #7, winning a championship in 1956.  Around that time, he was scouted by major league baseball teams and received an offer to play in the United States. 

Vance enjoyed a lengthy career in management at the North American Lumber head office in downtown Winnipeg for many years until his retirement in 2002.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. 

He always kept a lovely house and yard.  That 3-bedroom bungalow, known for its perfect lawn was the scene of countless family gatherings, barbeques and parties.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 11:00 am, at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke St., Winnipeg MB.
