Evan George Dwyer was born on December 15, 1948, in Endeavour, Manchester, Jamaica. He passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, following a courageous five-month battle with cancer.

Evan migrated to Winnipeg in 1971, where he made his home and built a life full of memories. He worked for a period of time as a welder and was known for his perseverance and determination throughout his life. Winnipeg remained his home for over five decades, where he raised his family and became a familiar, well-loved presence within his community.

Evan had a deep love for reggae music and dancing, found joy in watching WWE, and never missed an episode of The Young and the Restless. He was known for his bold and stubborn nature, balanced by a sharp sense of humour and sociable personality. Evan had a way of drawing people in and leaving lasting impressions on all who knew him.

He was the youngest son of Fredricka and Arthur Dwyer, both predeceased. He was also predeceased by his siblings Stephen, Clarence, Neville, Ronald, Hansel, Radley, and Lloyd. Evan is survived by his siblings Irving, Linda, Evelyn, and Erna.

Evan was the devoted husband of Angelita Dwyer and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, listed from oldest to youngest:

Yvette, her husband Harold, and her son Jabari;

Marlene, her children Damien, Shanikah, Aniyah, Keaun, Khijanah, and Ziyon, and her grandchildren Vigo and Selaira;

Christine, her husband Marlon, and her children Teosha, Jahrico, and Jahmar, and her grandchild Shakhiro;

George, and his children Analy and Ylana.

He is also lovingly remembered by his step-daughter Pinky and her husband Francois, and their children Danielle, Oji, and Ethan.

Evan will be remembered for his strength, resilience, humour, and unwavering love for his family. His presence, laughter, and spirit will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all whose lives he touched.

The family wishes to thank Evan’s medical and healthcare team for the care and kindness shown to him during his final months. Their kindness and dedication helped ensure his comfort and dignity, bringing reassurance to Evan and comfort to those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to cancer care and research. They send their love and strength to all families walking a similar journey.
