Margaret Buchko
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and grandmother, Margaret Buchko, on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 98 years. Margaret was born in Winnipeg on May 29, 1927.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Stephen Buchko, in 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, Anna and Joseph Moskalyk; brothers Bill and Alex and nephew Trevor Marne.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her son Alex, daughter-in-law Heather; granddaughters Kristyn and Kaitlin (Ryan); daughter Barbara, son-in-law Werner Burokas; grandsons Matthew (Joyce), Michael (Natalia) and Christopher; daughter Donna, son-in-law Brian Malenki; grandson William (Leah); granddaughter Gina as well as many nieces, nephews and dear family friends.
Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg. After her high school graduation, she worked for the Dominion Bank. Mom married Stephen Buchko, her high school sweetheart in 1951. Together they enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 65 years. Mom became a full-time homemaker when the babies came along. She put her heart and soul into caring for her family. Mom had a huge heart and was always there to encourage and celebrate the achievements of her children and grandchildren. Some of her greatest joys were attending graduations, sporting events, school concerts and birthday celebrations for her grandchildren.
Mom returned to the workforce when the children were grown. She enjoyed her work and the friend that she made at Statistics Canada.
In their golden years Mom and Dad enjoyed their travels in Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii and across Canada. They returned with many wonderful tales to share. They also enjoyed their cottage at Wanasing, Victoria Beach, which for many summers was the hub of family activities. We have many fond memories of Mom building sand castles with the grandchildren, going for walks along the water and preparing wonderful meals.
Mom valued the companionship she found with the Blessed Virgin Mary Church senior’s group. She appreciated the many friends that she made over coffee and cards. In recent months Mom found the same joy with the new friendships at the Adult Day Program at Holy Family.
Mom was a loving and devoted wife, mother daughter, sister, auntie and friend. She was caring, unselfish and generous in every sense of the word, always putting the interests of others ahead of her own. We were blessed with a wonderful mother and grandmother who had a large presence and influence in our lives.
Mom will be greatly missed. We know deep in our hearts that Mom is at peace and in good hands.
We extend a thank you to relatives and friends for their comforting words and loving support in our time of sorrow.
Thank you also to the St. Boniface Hospital staff for their care and compassion.
Mom will be honoured with a private service, and interment to follow in the spring.
For those who wish, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or CancerCare Manitoba, in memory of our Mom.
