Laura Nickols (Braico), loving wife, caring mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away tragically on November 15, 2025, at the age of 58. For those who knew her, Laura leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength.

Born on October 30th, 1967, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Laura grew up surrounded by family and community, instilling in her a deep appreciation for the value of human connection that would remain at the heart of her life. She provided unwavering support and encouragement to the people around her, ensuring that those in her life felt seen, valued, and loved. Laura was a woman of strength and resilience, and without hesitation she offered that strength to anybody who needed someone to lean on. She loved openly and loudly, and she will be remembered as someone who was as quick to stand up for the people in her life as she was to laugh with them.

Laura graduated from J.H. Bruns Collegiate in 1985 and went on to spend her career in the insurance industry, with a focus on employee benefits and group insurance. In 1997, she met her husband, Jeremy Nickols, with whom she would go on to build a life of joy, partnership, and love. Together, they shared countless adventures, quiet moments, and a bond that was both tender and strong. She was the proud and caring mother of her two daughters, Julia and Gwyneth, who will carry her spirit forward in their hearts and lives. Laura’s devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she found her greatest joy in nurturing and guiding her daughters.

She is survived by her mother, Patricia Braico; her brother, John (Susan); her parents in-law, James and Jeanette Nickols; and her siblings in-law, Jennifer (Matthew) and Jason (Miranda). Laura also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Maddie, Hannah, Charlee, Jackson, Ava, and Michael. Laura was preceded in death by her father, Mario Braico. Beyond her family, Laura touched the lives of countless friends, colleagues, and neighbors with her generosity and warmth. Her gift for bringing people together, whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or her ability to listen deeply, will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 3V7, (livestreaming will be available) where family and friends will gather to celebrate Laura’s life and the love she gave so freely. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in her memory to Breast Cancer Canada, a cause that was deeply important to Laura.

Laura’s memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her family, friends, and all others who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her time here was far too short, her loved ones remain deeply grateful for every moment they were given with her.
