LYDIA PETAK Obituary

LYDIA PETAK

On Monday, December 15, my precious godmother, Lydia Petak, journeyed to heaven. She will be greeted by her husband Stefan Petak, and her best friend, my mother, Jean Turko, together with my father, Wolodymyr Turko. They will now be able to laugh and enjoy fun times together. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Stefan and she will always be remembered and loved by her goddaughter, Sonia Turko Szaura and family, and Sonia's brother Daniel Turko.

Lydia was born on August 9, 1928 in the area of Turka, Poland. She was a young 20-year-old woman when she arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1948. She had hopes and dreams, coupled with a radiant personality who loved music, dancing, laughter, and was always dressed extremely well. Lydia was kind, sweet, caring and I, as many others will miss her dearly.

Reflecting back, I have many recollections of the beautiful dresses she adorned me with, taking the train to Winnipeg Beach, walking the boardwalk at Grand Beach, sleepovers, hamburgers at the Thunderbird drive-in, and her beautiful voice, singing songs to me, “You are My Sunshine” and “Kay Sera, Sera” (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).

Thank you to the caregivers, nurses, and staff of River East Personal Care Home, Hope Haven, where Lydia resided for six years. Your love, dedication, and caring support gave her smiles, peace and tranquility. You became her precious friends.

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,

You make me happy when skies are gray,

You did know how much I loved you."

As per Lydia’s request, a private service will be held.
