SOPHIE LANKOWSKI

Sophie Lankowski (née Kardash) passed peacefully at Holy Family Residence on November 22, 2025, at age 94.

She was predeceased by her husband Leo and only sibling Bohdan (Emily).

She is survived by her nephew Ken (Grace) of Montreal, their children Katrina and Jonathan, and nephew David (Ron) of Toronto. Her neighbour and close friend Audrey (Floyd) was a treasured presence throughout the latter part of her life.

A Funeral Divine Liturgy be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue in Winnipeg, where she was a devoted parishioner for over half a century. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery at 4477 Main Street, West Saint Paul.

Sophie was a vivacious spirit throughout her life, and charmed those around her with her energy and wit. She and her beloved Leo traveled the world together, and it seems like more than coincidence that she made her final journey to be with him on his birthday. She kept her lively spirit to the end, even when it became clear that she would have to leave her cherished home and garden on Cathedral Avenue. Ultimately, she was lucky to end up in the caring environment of Holy Family Residence. Her conclusion to many conversations with younger people was “Live life to the full now, don’t wait until later!” She followed her own advice, and it is a fitting epitaph.
