OLENA HOMENKO

Our beloved sister and auntie Olena Homenko of Winnipeg in Fort Garry, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the age of 99 years.

She was born in Kryvorojie, Ukraine, to Maria and Reverend Fr. Mikola Homenko.

Olena’s memory lives on with her youngest sister Lida; nieces Tatiana and Federica de Palma Avanti, Ginevra De Michele, Maria, Didi, Lisa and Leslie Homenko; nephews Federico de Michele, George and Alex Holowko with their wives and children, Chris Homenko and his wife and children; and sister-in-law, Judy Homenko.

She was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Rev. Mikola Homenko; brothers George and Alexander; sister Halina; and her love, Joe Bzowy.

Olena enjoyed singing and was a soprano of the Holy Trinity Cathedral’s choir. She also enjoyed reading and embroidering. She loved flowers and became an avid and accomplished gardener who took joy in sharing both her knowledge with friends and family.

Olena was never scared to take new opportunities, did everything with honesty and integrity, and had very strong values.

She became manager of the Royal Bank of Canada's Proof Department in Winnipeg, where she remained for 36 years, receiving great satisfaction and recognition.

She had incredible patience and always made time to help others.

Elizabeth Taylor’s phrase reflects Olena faithfully, "there's an elegance, that of the soul, that can't be taught, or learned. It simply possessed."

A heartfelt thank you to all the Luther Home staff for always caring for Olena with love and kindness.

In wishing her a good journey toward the Light, let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present within enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence

A Celebration Of Olena’s life will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2025 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.  Interment Burial will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
