STELLA DEMCHENKO Obituary

Stella Demchenko

July 10, 1039 – November 16, 2025

Wife, Mother, Baba, Sister, Aunt

As they were in life, and now in death Mom will be laid to rest with Dad, their souls resting in heavenly peace.

Stella passed away peacefully on Sunday November 16th, 2025 at the age of 89, with the love of her children surrounding her.

Stella was born in St. Martin, Manitoba to parents Dominica and Stanislaw Syrotiuk.

She was predeceased by her husband (our dad) Victor Demchenko and her siblings Mary (Leroy Prevost), Olga (Bill Senchychych), and Annie Syrotiuk and her close sisters-and-brother-in-laws; Zena and Paul Marusenko, Inga and Ben Demchenko & Mary and Sam Spence.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by HER nine children Serge (Connie) Demchenko, Alexandra Demchenko, Fred Demchenko, Victor Demchenko, Philip (Andrea) Demchenko, Margaret (Dean) Demchenko-Manegold, Odarka Demchenko, Natalia (Paul) Collette, Boris (Heather) Demchenko. grandchildren Roman (Elizabeth) Demchenko, Tisa (Will) Hawboldt, Peter Demchenko, Katrina Demchenko, Rachelle Collette, Sara Collette, Nadia Demchenko and Nickolas Manegold. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family will also dearly miss her.

Stella was raised on a farm in St. Martin Manitoba. She fondly recalled seeing the northern lights from her home and how beautiful they were to watch, all the dancing lights and colours across the prairie sky.

She later moved to Winnipeg to pursue a career as a Seamstress. Eventually she met and married the love of her life with whom she would spend the next 60 years with. Stella and Victor married in 1960 and went on to raise nine children and 8 grandchildren. She was a devoted Wife, Mother and Baba.

Mom enjoyed many things in life, planting a garden in Portage La Prairie, along side with her sister-and-brother-in-laws. She enjoyed needlepoint, sewing, long walks, bowling, weekly Bingo at the Age and Opportunity and aqua exercise. She devoted her time to volunteering at the church along side her sister-in-laws Zena and Inga.  There are many memories of the three of them working together side by side.

Of all the things Mom loved most (beside her family) was to travel; whether by train with Dad to Ontario or Nova Scotia to see their children and grandchildren.  She also traveled with her sister-in-law Inga, and road trips somewhere with her daughters Alexandra and Odarka.

The Family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff that cared for Stella at Saint Boniface Hospital, Concordia and Seven Oaks Hospital during the past year. There are no words to express our profound gratitude for your exceptional care and compassion.

Evening prayers for Stella will be held Thursday, November 20th,  7pm at St. Mary the Protectess Cathedral, (820 Burrows Ave). Funeral Rite will be at St Mary the Protectress on Nov 21s at 12:00 noon with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.

Special thanks to all the pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in Stella's memory.
