JOÃO MANUEL TAVARES Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of João Manuel Tavares, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who left us while surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Sao Miguel Acores Portugal, João immigrated to Canada over 55 years ago with his parents and brother, embracing a new country with courage and determination. He learned a new language, took pride in his work as head cook at HSC hospital, worked tirelessly, and dedicated his life to building a strong foundation for his family. His sacrifices, resilience, and commitment shaped the lives of everyone who loved him.

João is survived by his beloved wife Filomena, and his four children:

Paulo (Jessica), Gorete, Michael (Marilou), and Julian (Ola).

He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren:

Makenzie, Victoria, Dominique, Noah, Emily, Demetri, Nicholas, Alexander, Isabel, Arielle, Andrew, and Caleb.

He is also survived by his only brother, Gilbert (Eddie), his niece Kristle, and his nephew Khorie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, João DaPonte and Maria Dos Anjos.

João will be remembered for his kindness, his humour, his strength, his integrity, his generosity, and the quiet but powerful ways he showed love. He did everything for his family, who could always count on him no matter what. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless memories he leaves behind.

Prayers will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 19 at St. Edward the Confessor, 836 Arlington Street at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery 3990 Portage Avenue.

May he rest in eternal peace.
