Obituary of GUYLA SMILSKI
Guyla Smilski
March 10,1935 – November 8, 2025
Guyla, the youngest child of Mike and Katherine Wachowich, was born in Flin Flon and raised in Island Falls, Saskatchewan. At the age of 13, she came to Winnipeg to attend school. Guyla is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sam, sons Reese (Daria) and Robert (Sandra), grandchildren Gregory, Danielle (Liam) and Melanie, great-granddaughter Caelynn, nephew John and niece Joanne (Michael). Guyla was predeceased by her parents, brother John (Helen) and grandson Caden.
Mom was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and Holy Family Home for many years. Mom and Dad enjoyed summer holidays at Dogtooth Lake resort and winter holidays in Hawaii, Arizona and cruising in the Caribbean.
Her grandchildren have fond memories of making crafts and spending time together at Dogtooth, the Children’s Museum, the zoo, Kildonan Park and visits to Toronto. Mom was a great cook and prepared amazing Ukrainian specialties for the holidays.
Guyla will be missed by all whom she met over the years. Her hard-working and outgoing nature, kind heart and willingness to help others will be forever remembered. Even though Mom’s health had declined significantly, she remained very independent and seldom asked for help.
May you now be at peace Mom, resting comfortably and watching over us.
