Lorris Salene Erskine
January 24, 1944 – October 6, 2025
Lorris Salene Erskine passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by loved ones after a period of illness and hospitalization. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, grace, and quiet strength touched many lives.
Born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Lorris later migrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her deep love for her family, and her steadfast support of those around her.
She was predeceased by her parents Gideon Knights and Sybil Annis Penniston, her beloved son Edison (Eddie) Erskine, her sister Joan Miller, and her brother Don Penniston. She is survived by her husband Leslie Erskine; sons Deno, Donovan, Shawn, and Colin; daughters-in-law; and grandchildren Aaron, Triton, Zael, Arius, Khataleina, and Ezra. She is also survived by her siblings Yvette Penniston, Marcella (Dolly) Lamont, Robert (Doc) Penniston, Curt Penniston, Bernard Penniston, Avalon Penniston, and Nyoka Corrigan along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members from Canada, the Caribbean, the United States, and South America.
The family is especially thankful to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers both in Ontario at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, and also in Winnipeg at the Victoria Hospital Cancer Centre, the Urgent Cancer Care Clinic, and at the Health Science Centre, with particular thanks to those who went above and beyond their call of duty. They also wish to express heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and the wider community during her illness and passing.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 – 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba with George McCallister officiating.
