STAN ABRAHAM COOK Obituary

Stan Abraham Cook/Sanoffsky

February 23,1949 - September 29, 2025

It is with tremendous sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Father Stan Abraham Cook/ Sanoffsky who the Creator called home on September 29,2025 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 76

Stan was a loving partner, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend. He loved his family with his entire heart. Throughout his lifetime he was always there to ensure love and protection for his family.

Stan was born in Dauphin Manitoba and raised in Duck Bay Manitoba. He was raised with strong family values and often shared fond memories of berry picking alongside his family. His father Abe owned and operated the fish shed and store, where Stan learned the importance of hard work while helping his parents and siblings.

Stan studied welding and moved to Winnipeg where he worked at CN Rail for some years while his son Shawn was a baby. Stan also did a lot of work for the Manitoba Metis Federation as he was a proud Metis from Duck Bay Manitoba. In Stan’s later years he became Treaty status to Pine Creek First Nation, but he never gave up his beliefs and customs of the Metis Culture. Stan enjoyed working on vehicles and knew how to rebuild motors and was always helpful to his daughter Tracy when she had vehicle problems.

Stan shared two children with his life partner Margaret Parenteau whom he loved and adored. Margaret and Stan lived and created a home in the north end of Winnipeg where they raised both Shawn and Tracy.

Stan had a natural ability and passion for music, and he carried that love throughout his life. Nothing brought him more joy than passing it to his children. He proudly shared their talents; Shawn on the drums, and Tracy singing from morning to night. He never missed a chance to brag about his children, who were his greatest pride and joy. At an early age, Stan learned to play guitar and with many years of practice, Stan would be known for his strong ability to hold a tune and sing his favorite songs by his lifetime idol and legend George Jones.  You would often see Margaret and Stan on stage or a get together with friends as they both shared a love for music. One of Shawn and Tracy’s memories was how Stan knew George’s number in Nashville Tennessee and how he would call and have the Jones boys talk to them.  People would often mistake Stan for Elvis Presley as he greatly resembled him. Stan played in many bands throughout his lifetime including the original Shades and Dawn and the Tanary Band.  We know that he is singing and playing now in Heaven.

Stan’s life was not always easy as he attended Duck Bay School in his early years and Cranberry Portage Day School in later years. Stan had both good and bad times while he attended school. His struggles of addiction lead him to face some challenging times, and he spent numerous years on Main Street in Winnipeg. Even though people would look at someone who lived such a lifestyle, Stan was humble and always had love for his family and friends on “skid row”, his nickname for Main Street.

Stan Abraham Cook/Sanoffsky was predeceased by his mother Madeline and his father Abe, his brothers Morse, Abraham and Nathan, and his sisters Shirely and Mary “MiMi”.

Stan leaves to mourn and is survived by his sisters, Leah and Melba, and his brothers, Issac and Tony. His son Shawn and his children Shantel, Justin, Jayden and Jadeen, his daughter Tracy and her children Destin and Leiland, his daughter Rita and her children, Jessie, Colleen, Lawrence, Mavis and William, as well as numerous great grandchildren, relatives, and close friends.

We will carry him in our hearts forever and cherish the time we spent together as he begins his spiritual journey.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Parenteau, Justin Proulx, Destin Parenteau, Leiland Parenteau, George Sanoffsky, Darryl Sanoffsky.

Honorary Pallbearers are nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference.
