BRENDA LOUISE LEWIS Obituary

We mourn the passing of our beloved mother and nana, Brenda, after a battle with AML.

Brenda was predeceased by her beloved Vasyl and her parents, Doris and Don. She is survived by Tamara (Don), Stuart (Maria), Chris (Morgan); five beautiful grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Ethan, Hallie, and Rowen; sisters Donna (Joe), their children Billy (Emmett) and Teralyn (Neveah, Amiya); Cecile (Terry); and many spiritual friends as well.

Brenda was born and raised in Brandon, MB and attended Sacred Heart, St Michael’s Academy and Neelin High School.

She began her singing by leading the congregation at church at the age of twelve. Then took voice instruction at St. Michael’s and had a leading role in the operetta, Pirates of Penzance as Buttercup and sang at numerous weddings and funerals.

Brenda graduated from RRCC in 1989 and spent time in Labour and Delivery, Dialysis and 21 years in Therapeutic Apheresis which became her passion. She co-authored a paper for the Journal of Clinical Apheresis in 2014, made a presentation to the Royal Commission on Healthcare in British Columbia, and was awarded the Nursing Excellence Award in 2016.

“I miss who my kids were when they were little. Not because of their age, but because I wish I could go back and hug them tighter, fix my mistakes and relive every laugh, smile, and hug.”

“There were challenging times, but we always pulled together. Spending time together as a family. Supported each other with whatever and whenever.”

In later years, the Christmas stockings were filled with the bits and bobs that the children would need when they moved on. All the precious memories of tap dancing, hockey, and soccer. The “square eyeball” nights. The introduction of Mr. Washer and Mrs. Dryer.

Relationships with all sorts of family were close to her heart.

Memories of water fights, easter basket streamers, bubbles, crafts, Mario Kart, sleepovers. Announcements of grandchildren left her guessing sometimes. Unexpected prenatal classes and ice cream.

Brenda was forever filled with pride at her children’s accomplishments, encouraging us to be upstanding, confident, and seizing the world. Her life was full of her children and grandchildren. Seeing life through the eyes of a child filled her heart.

We will all miss you mom. Your lessons will continue to guide us into the future.

Tamara, Stuart, and Christopher
