LORRAINE ELIZABETH MARGARET JURKOWSKI Obituary

Lorraine Elizabeth Margaret Jurkowski

(née Cielen)

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Lorraine on August 22, 2025. She was predeceased by her loving husband Eddie of 48 years in 2002, parents, Frank and Magaret Cielen, and brother Frank, aunts and uncles; she is succeeded by her brothers Ray (Elizabeth) and Larry. Lorraine leaves behind her children Edward (Colleen), Elaine Theresa (Bill), David (Alison), Gary (Liz) and beloved grandchildren Joren, Rhett and Wade, sisters-in-laws Georgina and Elsie, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine began her life in the North End of Winnipeg and relocated into the Transcona area soon after as her marriage as her family grew. She was proud of her Polish and Danish heritages and her community. She was a true Canadian patriot and was proud to call herself a Winnipegger (or Canadian).  She had an inquisitive and adventurous spirit which she passed on to her own children.

Lorraine was a strong supporter of lifelong education, which began with her starting formal education in elementary school at age 3 and concluding with earning her Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies from the University of Winnipeg at age 60.

Lorraine also embraced the value of service: she was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League of Canada; she served in various capacities working with people with disabilities; and she served in leadership roles with the St John Cantius Polish Fraternal Aid Society/Senior's group (including a tenure as President). She was also a lifetime member of the St. John Cantius Society.

Lorraine was always welcoming of family and friends. Her warm smile and caring heart always left one feeling like they were special and in good hands. A woman of great faith, Loraine experienced many miracles in her life. Her faith and church were central to her being throughout her life.

Lorraine's greatest love was family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed special occasions such as birthdays and special holidays and was well known for her love of baking and cake decorating. She also enjoyed travel, knitting, crochet work, needlepoint, quilting and sewing. She also never missed an opportunity to enjoy a cribbage game with her grandsons, or Scrabble match with her children.

Lorraine will be laid to rest on Friday, August 29 2025, beginning with a mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street, Winnipeg at 10:00 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:00 a.m.

Special thanks to Dr. Dennis Caners for his years of taking care of Lorraine, and the staff at the Victoria Hospital, S-South for their loving care during Lorraine's final journey.

Donations can be made to The Society of the Little Flower, 7020 Stanley Ave, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 7B7, or St Joseph the Worker, for the Jurkowski Community Service Scholarship/Award fund (note in the memo line).
