LIZZIE GERTIE DUCHARME Obituary

LIZZIE GERTIE DUCHARME

September 4, 1932 - August 4, 2025

It is with tremendous sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Elizabeth, "Lizzie ~ Elukstu" Ducharme, who the Creator called home on August 4th 2025 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 92.

Lizzie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Koko), sister, cousin and friend. She loved her family immensely. Throughout her lifetime she never gave up when ensuring that her family members felt the warmth of her nurturing, protective and compassionate demeanor. She supported and provided comfort and guidance to those closest to her, especially through the most enduring hardship and challenging of times.

Lizzie grew up in Camperville, and was married in Duck Bay, Manitoba. She spent summers camping and picking blueberries at Kettle Hills with her family. She worked at the fish plant back home before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she worked as a general labourer at the Cold Storage Company. She played a serious game of cards, and held a good sense of humor towards her family and guests. She enjoyed having invited company and going to bingo with her sisters and relatives. She had a passion for cooking that she preferred to do independently.

She gave her best when extending her kindness and generosity when opening her home to others. Holidays spent with our Koko, were the best as she prepared the most delicious home cooked meals and baked goods for everyone, which everyone would race to Koko's kitchen especially for her blueberry pies. Koko provided a safe haven for her grandchildren, including the children whom she fostered over the years.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" was predeceased by her mother Charlotte Delaronde and father George Flett. Her siblings, sister's Doris Parenteau, Lena Mekish, Gracie Lamirande, Mary Lamirande, and her brother Delmer Flett. Her husband Harold Ducharme and their children, daughters baby Charlotte, and Madeline (Go-girly); her sons Ronald (Ducharme); Alex (Bad-baby) Clarence (Beatle) and Tommy Ducharme. Her great grandchildren baby Tyrell and baby Leland, Crystal (Krissie-girl), and Jasmine (Miss Ducharme). Her grandchildren Crystal, James-Hank, Jake, Jolene Ducharme, Thomas (TD) Lavallee, Jesse, Ronald Ducharme, Roderick Fagnan, and Melanie (Bugeyes) Lavallee.

Lizzie leaves to mourn and is survived by her sisters Rita Perrault, Lillian Demerais, and Marlene (Edward Lavallee). Her children, daughter's Daphne (Ray) Keeper; Alma “Bola” (Ronald); Geraldine (Gubby); Janet (Wilson Sr.); her son's Cecil “Bad-Boy,” and Gerald “Papoose” (Leah) Ducharme. She also leaves to mourn, her close friends, numerous relatives and all of her grandchildren.

We will carry her in our hearts forever and cherish the time we spent together as she begins her spiritual journey.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Ducharme, Ronald Ducharme, Voughn Keeper, Tristan Ducharme, Troy Hall, Jacob Ducharme, Gene Ducharme, Christopher Ducharme, Nathan.

Honorary Paul Bearers are all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren

Legacy of Love, Dedication, & Strength

Cherished are the memories of a strong, resilient and loving Koko, wife and mother. The LOVE, dedication and strength of our matriarch, this is what we have from you. You taught us love and how to fight.  You gave us strength; you gave us might. All of the laughter and even the tears we cried. You taught us not to be afraid to express our fears and dishearten. For all of us you gave your best, you’re the most courageous woman who tried. A stronger person would be hard to find. Words from your heart, you said always try, never give up, and reminded when you've overstepped or overstayed your welcome. You fought for us all in one way or another. You remained a devoted Koko, wife and mother. For all of us you gave your best. Now the time has come for you to rest. It's going to be hard to be without you, We hoped for more time. When feeling alone, mistreated or misguided, we can look for any signs of you. That give comfort you are nearby. To see a butterfly landing, a migizii soaring, a tiger lily sprouting, a lighting storm passing, aniibiishan bangishinoon (leafs) and snowflakes falling. Your gracious love was uplifting and empowering, especially when you made us feel so welcome. We felt so proud a sense of belonging, that we had a place near you. Worthy of a love when you let me hold your hand to help you. It makes us smile to remember the jokes we shared, and being teased by you. I miss the loudness of our family’s laughter. These are the valuable moments we will hold onto forever. Life's great fears and challenges were left to face. We'll remember to try and do our best with love, with dedication and with strength. So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep. Your love, forever in our hearts, we’ll keep you ~ kisageheen, we all love you!
