GEORGINA TERWIN Obituary

GEORGINA TERWIN (nee Hamill)

April 3, 1945 – August 1, 2025

I always knew my Mum was an angel on earth, but she learned to fly on Friday, August 1st, 2025 leaving us behind with our memories of her love.

Georgina leaves to mourn her daughter Kerry and son-in-law Gerald Fehr; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Arlene Hamill; sister Patricia Santucci; sister-in-law Marlene Terwin and brother-in-law Gerry (Donna) Terwin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends who all held a special place in her heart.

Although Mum was not ready to leave this world, she was looking forward to the heavenly reunion with the love of her life Johnny and her son Jamie, who she has deeply missed since their passing. She was also looking forward to sharing a cuppa tea with her parents, Robert and Margaret Hamill, sister Marguerite Pinchuk and sister Winnifred Campbell.

Mum grew up in the West End of Winnipeg and began her working life at an early age, cleaning tables at the Eaton‘s cafeteria. It was her love for helping others that took her to the Winnipeg Rehabilitation Hospital, where she worked as a Physio Assistant for several years. While working at the Rehab, she met Johnny and fell in love. They married on September 10, 1966. Kerry and Jamie’s arrival came soon after in 1968 and 1971, respectively.

My Mum was a devoted mother and wife, selflessly making our lives the best that they could be. We spent our summers at Spruce Sands Trailer Park living our best lives and our winters at Isaac Brock Community Centre, where she volunteered to ensure that all the children in the neighborhood had a safe place to be. Our home was a second home to many of our friends. It wasn’t very often that there was only four of us at the dinner table. She spent 15 years at home nurturing and guiding us before returning to work as a swim instructor at Sargent Park Pool. Through her work as a swimming instructor, she became involved in programming for children and adults with disabilities. This was her passion, and it led to a rewarding career with the Winnipeg School Division #1 as a Teaching Assistant in Special Education.

In preparation for retirement and a move to Arnes, MB, Mum made the decision to go back to school and become a nail technician. Receiving that diploma was one of her proudest moments. Having that certification provided her with the opportunity to deliver foot care to seniors in the Gimli area for almost 20 years. She never considered this work; it was just a pleasure.

After my Dad passed, Mum relocated from Valhalla Beach to Aspen Park, Gimli. Here she continued volunteering with the Gimli Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and Cancer Care Phone Buddy Program for women living with breast cancer.

We are so grateful that Mum chose to spend the last five years living close to us in Tyndall. And after much convincing, we also had the pleasure of her company snowbirding in Texas for two winters. Mum wasn’t one to sit around. She kept herself busy reading, sewing crafty projects, attending aquacise classes, volunteering at the Eastgate Lodge Care Home in Beausejour and baking the best raisin scones ever!

Special thanks to Dr. Clark and Laura of the IERHA palliative care program and all the staff at the Selkirk Hospital, Beausejour Hospital and Health Science Centre GH7 for their care and support during Mum’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mum’s memory to the Rossbrook House Foundation (www.rossbrookhouse.ca) or the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation 25 Bikes program (www.crf.mb.ca).

A private Celebration of Life and interment will take place at a later date.
