JULY 25, 1932 - AUGUST 1, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edward Andrew Sawka on Friday, August 1, 2025. Born in Prawda, Manitoba, on July 25, 1932, Edward was predeceased by his father, Andriy (Andrew) Sawka (1972); his mother, Magdalena Pasieczka (1976); daughter, Susan Sawka (2024) and brothers, Nick (1982), Ivan (1940) and George.

Edward is survived by his wife of 70 years, Aurore and his children, Terry (Sandra), Brian, Jason (Sarah) and Elizabeth (Terry); his grandchildren Shirley (Kevin), Carolyn (Robert), Meaghan (Jen), Morgan (Edward), Jason, Anton and Trevor; and his great-grandchildren Aether, Lumine, Nora, Abigail and Benjamin.

Edward will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud father, a fond grandparent, great-grandparent, a good friend and an active community supporter.  He was an avid gardener; and he and Aurore always shared the bounty at the end of the season. He loved to dance.  When the music started, he and Aurore would always be on the dance floor showing the rest of us what it meant to enjoy a moment.

Edward and Aurore loved to travel and took their children on multiple trips across Canada and the United States.  They made the trips memorable: “Remember when we went” or “remember where” is sure to be heard at every family gathering. Edward and Aurore enjoyed their winter holidays in Weslaco, Texas. They made many friends who often visited them at their farm in Prawda and their home in Winnipeg.

As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law, Edward will be greatly missed.  He was a light in our lives, and his memory will be a source of comfort for us all.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB with a lunch to follow the service.  Interment to follow at 2:00 p.m, at St. Mary’s Riverside Cemetery, 46123 PR 506 (Road 73 East) in Prawda, Manitoba.  Lunch to follow at the Hall in Prawda.
