THOMAS DAVID BEITZ
July 28, 1943 – June 27, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Pop, Thomas Beitz, on June 27, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Over the past four years, since the unexpected loss of our mom, Dad showed remarkable strength, and we did our best to walk alongside him with love, care, and support every step of the way.
He will be deeply missed by his children Debbie (Rob), Tom Jr (Terry) and Jennifer; grandchildren Josh, Sarah, Logan, Kayla, Tyler, Emily, Ophelia, Reagan, Emma, Einsley, Benjamin, Alec and Lauryn; sisters-in-law JoAnn, Susie (Greg) and Polly; brothers Peter (Babs) and Jimmy (Shirley) sister Margret and sister-in-law Carol; nieces and nephews Tyson, Lindsay, Brandy, Jeff, Jason, David, Glenn, Jamie and many great grandnieces and grandnephews, friends and co-workers.
Predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Beitz (Huchenski); parents Anne Sikora and Paul Beitz; brother Bobby and brothers-in-law Gary Ager, Brian Liebrecht and Niels Dyrberg.
Dad was born and raised in Port Arthur, Ontario, where he married the love of his life, Sharon. Together they started their family. He worked at A & P Grocery before moving to Winnipeg in 1978 to build their home in Oakbank, Manitoba, and begin a new chapter working at Canada Malting. After a work-related injury in 1989, he retired and soon became affectionately known at home as "Taxi Beitz."
Dad loved to travel. He and Mom—whom he lovingly called “Wilma”—spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona, enjoying the sunshine and each other's company. True to his nickname, he was always behind the wheel, often driving them to “Shooting Star” where Mom somehow always managed to win. At home, if he wasn’t chauffeuring, you could find him in the kitchen, whipping up dishes from his Chinese cooking classes—honey garlic ribs, egg rolls or his famous potato pancakes or chicken a la rat, a guaranteed hit whenever his brothers visited from Thunder Bay.
Family meant everything to him. Whether it was a birthday, a round of golf or a grandkid’s hockey game. Our Dad, Pop, Grandpa or Great-Grandpa—you name it—was always there, cheering us on. Known for his storytelling (often with a touch of exaggeration), he never missed a chance to make us laugh—and just as reliably, Mom was there beside him with a loving, “Tom, zip it!”
He loved his family unconditionally and loved our mom deeply.
And we loved him back even more.
We will miss you terribly, Dad.
You were the steady, loving heart of our family and leave behind a legacy of presence, kindness, and unwavering love.
Thank you to ALL Dad's home care workers and the new friends he made at the PRIME Program over the past year. You truly made his days brighter.
Till we meet again.
