ROSE EFTODA (nee CHAWRUN)
July 5, 1933 – July 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rose with her family by her side on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 92 Years.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Gordon; parents John and Katherine (nee Hawryliuk); brothers Mike and Bill; sisters Alice, Minnie, Mary, Anne, Helen, Jean and Emily. Rose is survived by her son Grant, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Rose was born near Ukraina Manitoba on June 21, 1933 and was raised on the family farm. Stories were often told of memories of picking berries in the summers with her sisters, helping her mother with producing cream for sale and tending to a garden capable of supporting their large family. She eventually moved to Winnipeg where she met the love of her life, Gordon. They were married on August 1, 1959.
Rose worked a variety of jobs, but choose to stay home after the arrival of their son Grant. Family and friends were always the most precious things in Rose’s life and where she chose to devote her time. Taking care of her immediate family was always her first priority and love in life. When time permitted in the summers, fishing with her husband and son was a popular pastime, as was tending to flower beds and tomato plants. Winters were often spent baking and cooking, including her family famous perogies and cinnamon twists that were a requirement at all family gatherings. Many trips were made back to the Dauphin area for family gatherings and the annual Ukrainian Festival. Similar activities continued into her retirement years. A winter RV trip to Weslaco Texas was a highlight, along with camping and fishing in the summers. Time spent with her extended family was always treasured.
The family especially thanks the staff at Concordia Hospital for the care she received in her final days.
Evening prayers will be held on Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cook’s Creek, MB with internment at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Bird’s Hill Park. An informal gathering will occur at the Royal Canadian Legion Elmwood Branch, 920 Nairn Avenue in Winnipeg following the internment.
