MARGARET “JANE” SMITH (née Lapointe)

August 21, 1949 – June 28, 2025

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, friend and sister, Margaret “Jane” Smith on June 28, 2025 at the age of 75 at River Park Gardens.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Doug Clemens); her brothers, Dennis (Paulette) and Ronald (Barbara); nieces Sara Guzzo (Ryan) and their children Eva and Antonio and Laura Lapointe as well as nephew Ryan Lapointe (Mara) and their daughter Kate. She is fondly remembered by the Smith family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jane was the middle child of Olga and Marcel Lapointe. Alongside her brothers, she grew up on Carter Avenue, attending St. Ignatius and St. Mary’s Academy where she excelled in academics and athletics. She later pursued marketing studies at Red River College Polytechnic, preparing her for a successful career.

Jane married early in life, welcoming her beautiful daughter Shannon. Jane embraced motherhood with enthusiasm, forming a close lifelong bond with Shannon, her best friend through every stage of life.

Jane spent her professional years at MTS, earning awards for her dedication and service. At home, she cultivated a peaceful sanctuary—especially her rose garden by the pool—and found comfort in the companionship of her cats and her cherished mystery novels.

Her warmth and thoughtful presence were felt wherever she went. Jane had a gift for making others feel seen and welcomed, especially with her radiant smile lighting up a room. She loved deeply, lived gently and left the world better than she found it.

Jane’s spirit lives on in Shannon’s warmth and laughter, in the rose blooms she nurtured and in the hearts of those she touched.
