Obituary of BILL (VASIL) KOWALENKO
BILL (VASIL) KOWALENKO
June 22, 1955 – June 8, 2025
It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of Bill Kowalenko after a lengthy illness. Bill passed away peacefully at the Gimli Hospital on Sunday June 8, 2025.
Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 22, 1955.
He leaves behind his loving family; his mother Ekaterina; brother Tony (Sally); sister Mary (Wes); nephew Dan (Ainsley); niece Sereena; great-niece Peyton; uncle Victor (Gisele) as well as his cousins Lisa (Rod), Sheri (Mike), Amanda (Tyler), Sean, Wyatt, Anson, Ronan and Bill's girlfriend Char. He was predeceased by his father Ivan.
Bill worked for many years at the City of Winnipeg. He then retired to enjoy his cottage at Ponemah, Manitoba. Bill loved to snowmobile, golf, attend meat draws at the legion, but most of all always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Although Bill lived on the beach, it was next to impossible to get him to go spend a few hours on the beach. He would much rather sit on his step with a smoke in his hand while planning out some sort of delicious meal he would whip up. Bill's latest project he had dreamed to finish was restoring his 1967 Barracuda so he could attend car shows and of course brag.
Bill was always there for his family, offering his help and wisdom whenever needed and he will be greatly missed.
"Get along" until we meet again.
The family would also like to thank staff at the Gimli Hospital for the care and support provided to Bill.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Bill's name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
