Obituary of BEATRICE WERY
Bea passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025 at Park Manor Personal Care Home at the age of 108.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roger; sister, Juliette (Bill); brothers, Romeo (Kae), George (May), Eddy (Helen), and Babe (Diane). She is lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bea was born in Otterbourne, Manitoba, July 23, 1916 to parents Sam and Louisa. The family moved to Transcona when Bea was 7 years-old. The Rougeau house became a gathering point for all of their friends and even became a boarding house at times for railway workers. Growing up in Transcona Bea loved both roller and ice skating but, her favourite was baseball, playing with the Transcona Jays. She also loved Travelling.
It was in Transcona that she met her husband, Roger Wery. In 1963 they decided they had had enough of Manitoba winters, so they packed up their belongings and headed off to California where they spent many happy years before returning to Canada in 1977. They moved to Mission, B. C. where they lived until 1981 when they finally moved back to Winnipeg.
In their retirement years, they spent their summers at Hillside Beach and winters in Mission, Texas. After Roger’s passing in 1989, Bea was never alone. She and her sister-in-law, Helen Rougeau became constant companions. Travelling together and even living together. The both moved into east Park Lodge and lived just down the hall from each other. Their 4:00 p.m. happy hour drink and munchies became a tradition.
Bea loved spending time with family and friends. She loved her time at East Park Lodge, playing shuffle board and enjoying teas and birthday celebrations with other tenants. The only thing stopping her from attending would be a Toronto Blue Jay game on TV. A special thanks to Geri and Mel Payne who checked in on Bea every night and to her good friend and hairdresser, Diane Wasel who made Bea walk a little prouder after her hair was done.
The family would like to give special thanks to the 2nd floor staff at Park Manor for the loving care they gave to their Auntie Bea.
A celebration of Bea’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m., June 17th at Park Manor Personal Care Home, 301 Redonda Street in Transcona.
