Obituary of TIMOTHY DANIEL SKOWRON

TIMOTHY SKOWRON

September 29, 1963 – May 14, 2025

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Riverview Health Center, Tim passed away peacefully from this world, surrounded by family.

Left to mourn his memory are his children Natalie and Christian; grandchildren Echo and Eli; ex-wife Louise; sister Kathy Ross and brother-in-law Brad Ross; nephew Alex Ross and wife Tia and as well as many family and friends.

Tim was predeceased by his parents Patricia and Ted Skowron; Aunt Shirley and Uncle Bob Danylchuk; Aunt Adele and Uncle Lloyd Danylchuk; his good friend Craig Gluck and his loyal fur pal Scooby.

Tim was born at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on September 29, 1963. Tim grew up in Transcona where he attended Central Elementary school, Arthur Day middle school and graduated from Murdock McKay Collegiate in 1981. Tim went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Criminology from the University of Manitoba in 1988. He was quite involved with the Delta Upsilon fraternity where he made many lifelong friends.

Tim was a quiet a sensitive, intuitive child, preferring to read books and ride his bike to playing sports. He was very proud of his baby sister Kathy and shared many fond memories of family vacations and special traditions. He fostered a love of martial arts as an adult and earned a red belt in Tae Kwan Do. In his later years, Tim enjoyed running and completed 2 Manitoba Marathons. He developed a love for yoga and meditation and these interests led him on trips to Hawaii and Bali, which he cherished and reminisced about often.

Tim enjoyed public speaking and was a former member of Toast Masters. He also volunteered with United Way Winnipeg where, as a Sponsored Executive, he worked on the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. Tim loved music, especially good old rock 'n roll. His favorite band was KISS, and he saw them in concert 4 times!  Tim enjoyed playing the drums and played in a band with his fraternity. He definitely imparted his love of reading and music to his children. Christian took guitar lessons throughout his teen years and Natalie took singing lessons for a few years.

Tim was hired by Service Canada in 1989 as a mailroom clerk. Soon after he was a successful candidate on a posting for an Investigator with Employment Insurance and thus began his lengthy career in this field. Tim loved every aspect of investigative work. He made many close friends and was admired and appreciated by his colleagues. Tim eventually took a promotion and advanced to a supervisory position. He corroborated on a project to streamline education and training for Investigators which took him across Canada to implement the training. The travel took a toll on Tim, and while proud of this work, he really missed being a frontline investigator which was his true passion. Sadly, Tim was forced to take early retirement at 55 for health reasons.

In 1988, Tim met Louise St. Laurent at the Venice House restaurant in St. Boniface where they both worked as service staff. They wed in 1991 and purchased their home in Norwood in 1993. They welcomed the birth of their daughter Natalie in 1994 and then their son Christian in 1998. Tim loved being a Dad. The family enjoyed camping at Clear Lake, and trips to Gimli and Birds Hill Beach. Tim enjoyed attending school concerts, sporting events and other extra-curricular activities, cheering his children on. He loved Natalie and Christian to the moon and back!

Although they separated in 2001 and divorced in 2004, Tim and Louise strived to co-parent and put the kid's needs first. They remained close friends and tried to support each other best they could.

Tim battled with addiction on and off in his high school years and again later in adulthood. After struggling for several years, Tim walked in to his first Narcotics Anonymous meeting in 2006. This began his journey towards sobriety and recovery. Tim was blessed with amazing sponsors, most notably Mel, who guided and supported him through some difficult times. Thus began his journey to service with NA and Tim went on to help many “sponsees” with their journeys as well. He was always grateful for NA and extremely proud of his sobriety and recovery. As he always said, " You can’t have one without the other” and he lived by this mantra.  His greatest achievement would be to have died clean and sober. You did it Tim!

Tim was diagnosed with dementia at 55. The disease progression was slow and insidious, robbing Tim of his vision, balance and eventually his speech and mobility, leaving him trapped in his body. To see such a vital, strong man reduced to a shadow of himself was very difficult and heartbreaking. Tim ended his days as a resident at Riverview Health Center.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Riverview for their care and to Brad Ross for his work as Power of Attorney for Tim, ensuring his needs were met.

Tim, you are free as a bird now! Go run those marathons, play the drums, meditate in the gardens of heaven and walk with Scooby.

Hug our loved ones who have gone before you and tell them we love and miss them….

God speed Tim!
