Obituary of DEBRA SUSAN WACHNIAK

DEBRA SUSAN WACHNIAK

(nee Debby Bothwell)

March 26, 1955 – May 4, 2025

With great sadness we announce the passing of Deb after a brave but losing battle with cancer.  Her passing leaves a void in our world.

Deb lived life with passion.  Whether it was planting flowers in 100 planters, displaying her 300 Santa ornaments annually or serving dinner to 40 family and friends at the Wachniak’s traditional Ukrainian Christmas celebration; she was the epitome of “The Hostess with The Mostess.”

Born March 26, 1955 in Makinak, Manitoba.  From a high energy little blonde to a loving, high energy granny.  She had a zest for life with an unstoppable passion for domestic travel, mastering new recipes, patronizing local restaurants and events around Winnipeg.  She had a number of unique and fashionable women’s clothing shops that she loved to support and anyone who knew her would agree; she was one classy lady.

She leaves behind her loving husband and best friend of 35 years, Ron S. Wachniak; his son Ron J. (Laurie) and their daughters Alyssa and Amanda; Ron’s daughter Gindy (Klein) (Greg) and their sons Gavin and Gabe.  Also mourning her passing are in-laws Bob Check, Dutch and Doraine Wachniak and Jo-Anne Barkley.  She will be missed by family members and her good friends.

Deb was predeceased by her parents Jim and Jean Bothwell, her sister Brenda Check and Ron’s son Ryan.

A big thank-you to Dr. Harris and the girls at Cancer Care (Grace Hospital) and also to the nurses at palliative care. A cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at West Kildonan Legion, 1748 Main Street on Sunday May 25, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  In honor of Deb’s zest for life we encourage all to wear something floral.
