Obituary of BRUCE MELVIN KOWALCHUK

Nov. 21, 1936 -April 29, 2025
With deep sorrow we announce Bruce’s passing on April 29th at age 88.
He leaves to mourn his wife Carol, daughter Karen, son Ken (Kirsten), daughter-in-law Eliana, grandchildren Alex, Michael, Julia, Tamara, Emma and Olivia, brother Dennis (Anne) and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by son Bruce, parents Alex and Stephanie, brothers Stan and John, sisters Anne, Rose and Pat.
After completing high school in Teulon, Bruce worked at the CNR for three years, acquiring a machinist certification. Leaving CNR, he was able to find work at the City of Winnipeg Assessment Department. In 1977, he achieved an AACI accreditation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada and transferred to Manitoba Hydro as a property appraiser. He enjoyed the work- related trips to Churchill, fly-in fishing trips with co-workers at the City and playing baseball with Hydro.
Bruce was always there for his children. He was involved in their sports, figure skating, music, and even found time to coach soccer.
Bruce and Carol had 65 wonderful years together. They moved to Vancouver in 1993 and spent 9 years in semi -retirement. Upon returning home, Bruce kept busy volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest and at fundraisers at Holy Trinity. He enjoyed his daily walks and keeping up with sports on TV. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and his memory will be cherished forever.
A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
