Obituary of EUGENE SENICKI
EUGENE MELVIN DONALD SENICKI
April 13 1942 -Winnipeg Manitoba
April 19 2025- Calgary, Alberta
Eugene Senicki passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the age of 83, with his wife and two children at his bedside in Foothills Hospital.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Eugene spent his youth fishing with his brother Sonny, summering at Winnipeg Beach Boundary Park or working construction with his father. Eugene enjoyed art and Ukrainian dance. He also enjoyed playing the piano, which he enjoyed right up to recent years. In high school and university, Eugene got into track and field and was on the University of Manitoba Bison's basketball team. While attending the University of Manitoba, Eugene received his Masters’ degree and a PhD in physics. Eugene also enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and skiing. It was while skiing at the Winnipeg Ski Club that he met his wife to be, Lois, in 1967. They were married on June 20, 1969. They enjoyed summers at Grand Beach, Manitoba and at Winnipeg Beach Boundary Park; as well as enjoying their hobbies together. Eugene and Lois moved to Vancouver in 1973 where Eugene worked selling scientific equipment. Then in 1977 they moved to Calgary, Alberta. Eugene got a job with Shell Canada as a geophysicist. Being a dedicated hard-working family man, Eugene was excited when he and Lois welcomed their baby boy, Mark, in 1979 and then their baby girl, Laura, in 1982. Eugene and his family enjoyed spending summers at Grand Beach, Manitoba - always keeping close to their roots in Winnipeg.
In 1992, Eugene and his family moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he worked for the national oil company, Petronas Carigali. This was an adventure his family will never forget. The family moved back to Calgary in 1998 where Eugene then got a job with Murphy Oil. He worked there until his retirement in 2008. After retiring, Eugene spent his time helping his children better their lives and enjoying his hobbies like playing golf, swimming, playing the piano, and being an avid tennis player. He played tennis as a member of the Riverside Club right up until 5 days before he passed away.
Eugene was predeceased by his mother Leona, father Walter, brother Walter (Sonny), brother Ronnie, cousins Myron Hrankowski, Paul Hrankowski, Yvonne (Bunny), Ron and Ray Senicki, aunt Elizabeth Hrankowski, and uncle Myron Hrankowski.
Eugene is survived by his wife Lois (nee Bennett), his daughter Laura, son Mark and his daughter in law Jillian Ball, niece Lisa (Gary), brother in law Bob (Brenda) and nephew Tim (Ingrid), and cousin Pat Guyda (nee Senicki) (Harvey).
