Obituary of HELENA PHYLLIS GREGRESH
HELENA (HELEN) PHYLLIS GREGRESH
1931-2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Phyllis on April 19, 2025 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Gregresh, her parents Regina and Thomas Horodyski, and all of her siblings Emilia, Kazimierz, Helena, and William. Left to mourn are her nieces and nephews and their families.
Born in Beausejour, Manitoba on November 1, 1931, Helen attended school in Beausejour before moving to Winnipeg. For many years she had a career within the federal government. In 1984, she married Ken Gregresh and together they enjoyed 34 fun and loving years together until his passing in 2018.
Helen had a special lucky streak and was a remarkable winner of prizes. She and Ken traveled extensively on prize trips and cruises, from Hawaii to PEI to Grey Cup games and the Panama Canal. They enjoyed many wonderful days fishing in the Whiteshell area with their prize-won motor home and inboard boat. However, among all this good fortune, Helen said she was most grateful for being “lucky in love” with Ken.
“Auntie Phyllis”, as we knew her best, enjoyed the many family celebrations we shared together. She brought a sparkle to every occasion with her quick wit, ready smile, and contagious laughter. She was well-known for her amusing stories about her travels, life experiences, and her news and views on current events. Always stylishly dressed, with freshly coiffed hair, she was generous in spirit and love for her family. Her enthusiastic exclamation at holiday meals – “Everything is so good. Too good!” – will be fondly remembered.
We give special thanks to the staff at River East Personal Care home for their patience and kindness. We especially acknowledge the care-giving of her niece, Grace Grindean.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue. Interment to follow in St. Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Beausejour, Manitoba.
