Obituary of DOROTHY ANN HARDY
DOROTHY HARDY
April 6, 1931 - April 21, 2025
Dorothy Hardy passed away at Middlechurch Personal Care Home at the age of 94 on Monday April 21, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory Scott, Llwellyn, and many beloved family and friends.
Dorothy was very glad to gather with loved ones earlier in April to celebrate her 94th birthday.
She was predeceased by her father Wasyl Hordy and mother Maria; brothers Steve and George (Nel) and sister Genevieve (Kenneth) Armstrong.
Dorothy was born at home on Dufferin Avenue in Winnipeg. Since she was always “yodeling” at home, her parents were easily persuaded to provide her with voice lessons. She obtained her Bachelors of Arts and Social Work from the University of Manitoba. She worked in a variety of capacities with the YWCA in the 1950’s and then was invited to join a new agency serving older adults, Age & Opportunity. In her more than 30 years with A & O, she served as personal services director, acting director and helped establish the Manitoba Association of Gerontology.
Singing was pure joy for Dorothy. She sang with the Winnipeg Philharmonic and served as a Soprano Soloist for several United churches in her early days and was a proud member of the O. Koshetz (Ukrainian) Choir for more than 50 years.
Dorothy was devoted to her family, faith, culture and church. She was born in the year that the meeting to establish St. Ivan Suchavsky Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral was held in her grandfather’s home. She was President of St. Ivan’s for more than 25 years, directed the choir for 40 years and coordinated the Perogy Project for 20 years. She also served as Secretary on the Consistory Board of the former Ukrainian Orthodox Church of America.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the team at Middlechurch for their wonderful care. Your support has meant everything to us. We have been blessed with the comfort provided by family and friends these many months.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street with Fr. Evan Maximiuk presiding. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery 4535 Main Street, West St. Paul. Pallbearers will be Andrew Rogan, Dan Kolberg, Gary Kowalchuk, Michael Horbay, Ted Barnett and Roman Viznyak.
Charitable donations in her memory may be made to the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Ivan Suchavsky. PO Box 43046 RPO Kildonan Place, Winnipeg, MB R2C 5G5; etransfers: St.Ivans.Wpg@gmail.com, O.
