WLADYSLAWA SILKA

Obituary of WLADYSLAWA SILKA

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Wladyslawa Silka, on April 15, 2025.

Wladyslawa is survived by her husband Jozef; daughter Renata (Greg); and grandchildren Ashley and Alyssa. She will be cherished by her friends and extended family, especially Ela and Ewa, who visited her regularly with their families. Wladyslawa was predeceased by her parents, Wladyslaw and Stefania; her brothers Czeslaw, Aleksander, Mieczyslaw; and nephew Marek along with his wife Basia.

Born in Głogów Małopolski, Poland, Wladyslawa met a young man with a motorcycle who would soon become her husband. They left Poland for a better life, arriving in Canada in 1963. From their early days working side by side at the Falcon Lake Hotel, to jobs in a leather garment factory, and later in a paper bag factory near their home, they built a life rooted in hard work and unwavering love. Celebrating 65 years of marriage in 2024, they supported each other through everything, always sharing laughter and daily walks to Tim Hortons in retirement.

Wladyslawa was known for her radiant smile and warm nature. She had a genuine love for people, always putting others before herself.

Family brought her the greatest joy. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren, from helping raise them in their early years, to never missing a dance performance. Many photos and videos capture her devoted presence and willingness to say “yes” to every one of Ashley and Alyssa’s requests.

Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was a devoted member of the Church, participating in the Rosary group and attending Sunday Mass. Wladyslawa also had a deep love for nature and animals; feeding birds and squirrels at her home and cottage in Gimli, and treating her cats as treasured members of the family. She enjoyed gardening, solving word search puzzles, watching soap operas, hosting family gatherings, and dancing in the living room with her granddaughters.

For those wishing to join in prayer, the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., presided over by an Oblate Father. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street, Winnipeg.
