Obituary of HELENA MIKAWOZ
(1929 - 2025)
Peacefully, on Sunday March 30, 2025, Helena passed away in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 95.
She is survived by her children Stan (Maria), Margaret (Greg), Mike (Maryna); grandchildren Daniel (Janelle), Marek (Doug), Kristina, Johnny, Michael, Nicholas; great-grandchildren Hannah, Hallie, Junior and along with many nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada and abroad.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Janek (2019). Her parents Michal and Aniela; her two brothers Jozek and Mietek; her two sisters Maria and Salka.
Helena was born and raised in Poland where she met and married the love of her life, Janek. They immigrated to Canada with their children in 1976 to join family, where she worked at Old Dutch for 16 years. Family was her top priority. Helena loved visiting the cottage for mushroom and blueberry picking and treasured family gatherings. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious smile, her many puzzle masterpieces, and her stunning plants especially her breathtaking orchids. She was an active member of the Holy Ghost Church and Holy Family Home where she made many friends and enjoyed all community events, particularly Bingo.
Viewing and Rosary (prayers) will be held on Friday April 4, 2025 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with a Oblate Fathers officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Active pallbearers will be Stan Mikawos, Thomas Pilipaitees, David Atwell, Kyle Mikawoz-Atwell, Johnny Fowlie and Christopher Sararas.
The family expresses their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Holy Family Home for their care over the past few years and to the Oblate Fathers.
