Alkah was a devoted and generous mother and grandmother. She doted on her grandchildren and they would give her practical assistance when able. I had only known her for a year and a half, but I will always remember her feistiness, creativity, and generosity. She was an avid gardener with a comprehensive knowledge of the beneficial properties of plants and herbs; she even had a productive lemon tree, reaching te ceiling in her living room. Alkah had trained as a practical nurse but was also an entrepreneur, operating her own restaurant in Jamaica during the winter. She would entertain me with her childhood exploits in Jamaica, as well as with her many Jamaican witticisms. Alkah had a strong love of the Bible and and, in spite of her illness, maintained her positive outlook, looking forward to the fulfillment of Isaiah 35:5,6 when "the eyes of the blind ones will be opened, and "the lame one will leap like the deer". We look forward to seeing her in Paradise.

We’re sorry we won’t be able to attend the memorial service, but we will be thinking of her family that day. We remember Alkah as a very kind, generous, warm-hearted person. She received us into her home as welcome guests. Alkak looked forward to living in a paradise earth where no one would say, ‘I am sick.’ We look forward to seeing her there. Al and Sharon Mierke
