Obituary of 'SANDY' ALEXANDRA KAREN CHRUSCH
SANDY CHRUSCH
March 14, 1951 - February 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear sister Sandy on February 26, 2025 at the age of 73.
She was predeceased by her loving parents Frank and Anne and left to cherish her memory is her family; Sharon (Len) Vince, Ryan and Melissa, Lawrence (Carmen) Chrusch of Chilliwack, Joy (Ed) Malawski, Tobie, Michael (Alicia) Liam and Avaya, Colleen (Joe) Kaspersion, Auntie Jean, Uncle John of Vancouver and numerous cousins and colleagues at Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI).
Born and raised in Winnipeg Sandy lived a life full of adventure and deep connections with family and friends. She was incredibly generous and always lending a helping hand whenever needed. She loved playing shuffleboard and bowling and was a passionate supporter of many charitable causes. Sandy dedicated over 46 years to MPI where she built an incredible career before retiring in early 2022. Sandy began her journey at MPI in 1975 as a Clerk 1 in Bodily Injury and spent the majority of her career as a Clerk 3 in the Subrogation Department. She played a vital role in shaping MPI’s Social Club. Organizing countless events from holiday parties and children’s picnics to bingo nights, bowling, curling bonspiels, baseball and golf tournaments. Watching her friends and coworkers enjoy these gatherings brought her immense joy. It was at MPI that Sandy met her best friend, Louise. They affectionately became known as “Thelma and Louise” going on many road trips together and sharing countless unforgettable moments. Sandy’s involvement extended beyond the office as she was also an active member of the Women’s Insurance Association, travelling annually across Canada and always returning with unique souvenirs and wonderful stories to share. Beyond her career, Sandy had a deep love for travel and adventure. She was happiest basking in the sun, and her heart found a second home in Acapulco where she formed lifelong friendships with people from all over the world whom she called her “Mexican Family.” Her travels also took her across the UK including England, Scotland and Ireland, one of her fondest vacations taken with her dear friend Florence. She also spent a lot of vacations with her family and friends at Winnipeg Beach and Camp Neustadt, never missing the craft fairs and farmers markets. Whether camping, exploring craft markets, enjoying the beach or embarking on road trips with family and friends, Sandy embraced every journey with enthusiasm. One of her most cherished trips was her recent visit to Chilliwack, BC where she soaked up the wine, sunshine and mountain views with her favourite brother and sister-in-law.
Sandy’s love for her family was boundless. She loved and cared for her sisters Sharon, Joy and Colleen with all her heart. Each sister held a special place in her life and their friendships were as unique as they were strong. When her sisters were little, Sandy always tried her best to make sure they had special treats, lots of girly stuff and made sure they felt valued and supported. Whether through a kind word, a warm embrace or simply being there when they needed her most. Sandy was their confidante, their cheerleader and together they built a foundation of love, trust and endless laughter. Her love for them was a constant and will always be their guiding light. The bond between Sandy and her brother Lawrence was one of a kind. They were best friends and had an unbreakable connection. They spoke every single day. Sometimes three or four times to say hi, catch up on the latest, share a bit of gossip, but most importantly to let one another know that they were both okay, still loving life and always looking forward to tomorrow’s plans. Their conversations were filled with love, laughter and an unspoken promise that no matter where life took them, they would always have each other. Through every triumph and challenge, their love remained constant and a beautiful reminder that family is forever.
Her unwavering love for her nieces and nephews Tobie, Ryan, Melissa, Michael and Alicia was evident in the deep bond she shared with each of them. Especially how she absolutely adored every moment she had with her great-nephew Liam and great-niece Avaya, showering them with endless love and spoiling them to no end. She found immense joy in every moment spent together, never missing an occasion and always putting heartfelt effort into making everyone feel so uniquely loved. She was truly the best auntie and her pride in her family shone brightly at every gathering, creating beautiful memories that our family will cherish forever.
Sandy also had a very close relationship with Auntie Jean, treasuring their connection through weekly phone calls and occasional visits. No matter how busy life got they always made time to share the latest news, have some good laughs and plenty of heartfelt conversations. Their chats often revolved around their favourite soap operas, however one of the strongest passions they shared was their deep admiration for ice skating.
Sandy was a Woman of the World and loved and admired by so many. We will always remember Sandy’s unique laugh, a sound so full of joy that it could be heard across the room. It was the kind of laugh that lifted spirits, brought smiles and made every moment brighter. She had a heart of gold, was always kind and thinking of others before herself. Her generosity touched everyone who knew her, leaving a lasting impact that will never be forgotten.
We are so proud of you Sandy and blessed to have been a part of your beautiful life. We will miss you so much that there are no words. We know Mom and Dad have you wrapped in their arms. May you rest in peace our precious angel. Our memories and love for you is forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Sandy’s name to a charity of your choice.
