Obituary of EMILY ROSE BERENS
In Loving Memory of Emily Berens
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, granny, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Emily passed away suddenly at home on February 21, 2025, at the age of 63.
Emily was predeceased by her mother, Andrena (Angelina) Berens; her husband, George Favel; her brother, Rene Berens; her sister, Claudette Berens; and her nephews, Ernest Jr. Berens, Elijah Sayer, and Weyland Levasseur. She was also predeceased by her nieces, Chantel Petawanaqueb and Eliza Berens, along with many other extended family members.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Crystal (Tony) Mayham; her cherished grandchildren, Darian Campbell, James Campbell, Grayson Mayham, Colleen Esquash Berens, Ayrton Garson, and Tobi Esquash. She also leaves behind her brothers, Michael Berens, Ernest Berens, and Wayne (Brenda) Berens; her sisters, Darlene Whiteway, Marlene Genaille, and Tammy Berens; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Emily, affectionately known as Meme, was born in Berens River, MB. In 1961, she moved to Winnipeg with her family in 1971. She welcomed her daughter, Crystal, in 1978 and later met the love of her life, George Favel, in 1980. They built a beautiful life together until his passing in 2017. In 2010, Emily proudly earned her Early Childhood Educator Level 2 (ECE 2) certification and worked passionately in the childcare field for many years.
Emily deeply loved her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, always cherishing every moment with them. She shared a special bond with her niece, Tori Berens, and her great-nieces, Saige and Zenny, whom she lovingly called her “FaceTime buddies.” Their weekly calls brought her so much joy. She also had a close relationship with her niece, Sam Berens, and they shared many laughs and good times, even living together not long ago.
Meme loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed bingo, swimming, bonfires, and, in her later years, attending church with her sisters. She had a wicked sense of humor and loved to tease everyone around her. Traveling was another passion of hers, with Las Vegas being her favorite destination—though we won’t talk about Punta Cana, lol! She devoted her life to the Lord shortly after Juicey was born and remained steadfast in her faith ever since.
Emily took great pride in her home, a symbol of her hard work and determination. Those who knew her will always remember her signature phrase: “Ooooo you!!”—often accompanied by her little fist in the air. We will miss her beautiful smile, her warm laughter, and her rosy, red cheeks. Meme was everyone’s Granny and will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Mommy, until we meet again on that beautiful shore in Heaven.
