Obituary of ELZA FERNANDES ROCHA
It is with sadness that Elza’s family announce her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband Manuel; parents, Rosa and Alberto; and grandson Helder.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria Helena (Joaquim); son, Jose Manuel (Florinda); grandchildren, Nelson (Alyssa), Fatinha (Diogo), Sergio, Daniel, and Fatima, Allison (Helder's widow); great-grandchildren, Miguel, Mariana, Victoria, Andre, Alejandro and a 6th one on the way.
Elza was born in Sao Miguel entre Ambos Rio, Ponte da Barca, Portugal on July 25, 1937. She met her husband, Manuel and married in 1958. Maria Helena was born in 1959, followed by Jose Manuel in 1962. They made the decision to immigrate to Canada in 1969 for a better life.
Elza volunteered at the Portuguese Association of Manitoba. She believed this was very important to her family in upholding their cultural values. Which the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren still uphold and continue. She enjoyed gardening, winning multiple awards from the City of Winnipeg for best yard/garden. Elza worked at Health Sciences Centre in the laundry department for many years.
The family thanks the staff at Oakview Extendicare for their care and compassion they provided for Elza.
