Obituary of RONALD STEWART McGAVIN
Ron passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, January 26, 2025 after recently being diagnosed with cancer. He left us to join his dearly missed wife, Judy.
Ron will be forever missed by his children Cameron, Michael and Lori; sister Dianna (Murray); as well as sister-in-law Joanne Hunt and her children Kyle (Kim) and their children Jaxson and Riley; Ryan (Heather) and their son Theodore; Tracey Groening (Rod) and their children Cody, Whitney, Kipton and Hudson.
We all hold dear the memories that have been created over the years, especially his beloved daughter Lori with whom he shared a special bond.
He was predeceased by his father, Stewart McGavin in 1963 and mother, Clementine McGavin (nee Lavallee) in 1986; mother-in-law, Kay Stangl in 1997; brother-in-law, Jim Hunt in 2006; father-in-law, Joe Stangl in 2013; loving wife, Judy in 2017.
Ron grew up in Norwood and attended Holy Cross School. He met Judy, the love of his life in 1962 and they were married in 1965. They lived in Transcona for 38 years, then moved to Kirchhoff Gardens Seniors Complex in 2009, where they embraced many friendships, activities and happy hours.
Ron was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church sharing his skill as a pancake flipper extraordinaire at many Sunday morning church breakfasts! He was also very involved as a member of the Knights of Columbus (Blessed Sacrament) helping plan state conventions and dinners for almost 60 years.
Ron and Judy supported and cheered on their children’s numerous sports endeavors. Ron had been an avid curler and a member of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club for many years, finally enticing Judy to join him in the late 80s. They enjoyed many games with family and friends over the years.
His family would like to thank Connie Kaisman for the friendship she provided to Ron during the last few years of his life, as well as the caring staff at Riverview Health Centre.
