OLGA TYMKIW

Obituary of OLGA MARION TYMKIW

passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Selkirk General Hospital, at the age of 95 years.

Olga was predeceased by her loving husband John Tymkiw, parents, aunt and cousin.

Olga is lovingly remembered by her daughter Patricia Tymkiw (Jeff Kachur), cousin Marvin Nenych (Vera) Ontario, cousin Ted Nenych (Kristine), Ontario, cousin Olesandra Demkowycz (like a daughter) and children Julia Demkowycz, Roman Nenych and Nicholas Nenych, cousin Luba Petryk (Dwayne) and children Natasha Garonowsky (Michael) and Michael Petryk.

Olga was born and raised in Winnipeg, where she met, fell in love and married John Tymkiw in 1955.

Olgas first job was at Eaton’s as a switchboard operator, from there she moved into their accounting office using a comptometer, which she used for many years in a variety of accounting offices.

Mom was a life long member of the ladies League of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral. Mom had many interests, in her youth she played violin in the Prosvita orchestra where she met many life long friends. She was an excellent cook and baker, she worked for many years at How Sweet It Is with our neighbour, creating sumptuous desserts. Mom knit, sewed and crocheted extraordinarily well.

Mom especially cared for our neighbours, they were good people, we had many, many BBQs as well Christmas morning pancake feasts followed by rousing games of Monopoly!

We as a family travelled coast to coast pulling a 36' trailer, stopping wherever there was something interesting to see. We were in Banff having a lovely outdoor lunch when a snowstorm blew in and chased us inside. On the east coast we ate so much lobster, we started to growing claws!

Dad was very active in the Knights of Columbus and mom was by his side. They travelled to many conventions across Canada and the US, they even met Mel Gibson at one of them.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Selkirk General Hospital, they provided mom with excellent care and compassion. As well, Dr Taras Babick for his vigilant care and life long friendship.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Father Stefan Tyrawski presiding. Interment will follow at a later date.
