Obituary of DOLORES ANASTASIA DANIELS

With heavy hearts we announce the death of our beloved Mom, Gramma, Gigi and friend, Dolores Anastasia Daniels at the age of 95.  Dolores died in the early hours of January 22, 2025 after a day spent happily visiting with family and friends and assuring us that we would all be alright. Dolores's faith was strong and she left this world with joy in her heart. 

She was predeceased by her husband Jack, her daughter Judith Cross (Howard), parents John and Irene Smigel and sisters Bess Herbachuk (Fred), Anne Saunders (Paul), Mae Hunter (Stash) and June Mihalchuk (Demetri).

Dolores is survived by her son John Daniels (Roz), granddaughter Heather Farber (Jordan), grandson John Daniels (April), great grandchildren Kate, Gerry, Annie, Charlotte and Fifi, niece, Bonita Hunter-Eastwood (Barry Hillman) and great-nephew Jason Eastwood, nephew Gregory Mihalchuk (Darlene) and great-niece Ainslie Mihalchuk.

Dolores was born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End where she met the love of her life, Jack, whom she married in 1947.  Dolores was an ambitious woman whose fiercely independent spirit and self-confidence led her to build a career in finance and business with Border Chemical. Dolores was also a shrewd investor who managed her own affairs and offered sound advice to the rest of us. She was also an avid gardener, a talented cook, a reader and an eternal student.

Nothing mattered more to Dolores than her family and friends.  One of Dolores’ most outstanding qualities and her greatest legacy was her ability to connect to others and to lovingly show them care and support while making them feel special and unique.  Dolores had countless special relationships and could relate to anyone; she was at the center of any gathering she was at, even capturing and holding the attention of the great grandchildren.

Dolores was devoted to her community and her church, St Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for over 70 years and served in many capacities including accounting, providing meals for those in need, supporting newcomers to Canada and in sending aid to Ukraine. Of particular importance to her was her work at the Shrine of the Blessed Bishop and Martyr Vasyl Velychkovsky.

The family expresses their thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care and to Fathers John Sianchuk and Bohdan Lukie for their spiritual guidance and friendship to Dolores over many years.
