Christa Steinborn

Obituary of Christa Steinborn

Christa Maria Steinborn Peacefully, on January 19, 2009, with her family by her side, our dear wife and mother, Christa Maria Steinborn, passed away at Riverview Health Center. Left to remember Christa are her husband Georg Steinborn; children Tamara (Nathan), Michael (Erin); in Germany are her sister Irmgard Kohl and brother Karl-Heinz (Nora) Kohl and numerous relatives. She will also be missed by her special extended family, Inge Reschke and Jutta (son Oliver) Kreber. Born in the beautiful Rhine region of Germany in 1943, Christa later immigrated to Canada with her mother. In Winnipeg, she met the love of her life, Georg, and they married in May, 1968. Happily married for 40 years, they often returned to Germany to visit family. Winnipeg became their home where they developed a large community of close friends. Christa took great pride in her job at Holy Family Nursing Home, where for many years she cared for residents with her signature love and generosity. She will be remembered for her caring and kindness to all. Her family always came first and they enjoyed the blessing of her singular abilities, especially her hard work, organization, and her exceptional cooking skills. She took great joy in providing her family with one last beautiful Christmas dinner. Christa's will to live and her faith in God were inspiring. Despite her 19 year battle with cancer, she remained strong through two recurrences and years of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She always kept her sense of humour and fully enjoyed every remaining moment with her husband and children. Special thanks to Dr. Lezack and the staff of the Oncology department at Seven Oaks Hospital as well as the caring staff at Riverview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of Christa Steinborn to the Canadian Cancer Society. Prayers will be said Thursday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews Street with Fr. Kevin Smith officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Mama, you were the light and strength in our lives, and we are blessed to have had your love. We will remember you always. "Ruhe sanft in den Armen des Herren"
