Obituary of Joseph Sansregret

JOSEPH LOUIS CHARLES ALPHONSUS SANSREGRET Peacefully, while sleeping "invincible Lou" finally lost his lengthy battle with heart disease and diabetes and died at GD4 Health Sciences Centre on August 9th, 2008. Louis was predeceased by his parents Josephine (Pelletier) Sansregret and Henri Sansregret, his brothers Bill and Alfred and his beloved grandson Max. He leaves to mourn his wife of fifty-two years Jeannette Zahirney Sansregret, their four children: Celeste, Napoleon (Catherine Anne Collins) Lisa (Brian Duffy) and Amanda (Brian Sexton) and his grandchildren: Reuel, Rachel, Nicholas and Amanda, a large extended family and many friends. Louis was born and educated in St. Charles Manitoba. He began working at Manitoba Dental Lab at the age of fifteen. He became an accomplished and well-regarded dental technician; spending more than 20 years with Manitoba Lab. He then started his own business, Elmwood Denture Clinic, becoming a pioneering member of the Manitoba Denturists' Association. Health issues forced him to retire at age 70, though patients continued to show up at the kitchen door for a coffee and a chat with Louis. His musical talents and love of jazz, R&B and pop music led him to work as a drummer and a drum teacher around town in the '50s and '60s. His personal charm, wicked wit and iconoclastic sartorial style made him a popular host at many of Winnipeg's finest night spots including The Stage Door, The Club Morocco, The Town and Country and for more than twenty six years at the International Inn in the Hollow Mug and the Gourmet Dining Room. Louis managed the door, waited on tables ran sound and lights for Hollow Mug shows and occasionally sat in with the band, often all in the same night! He loved to dance and his courtship of Jeannette was done on canteen dance floors around the city in the 50's. Louis loved his wife and family, a fast car, a Habs game, a good dinner, a good party and always, a good story. We will all sorely miss his warm affectionate nature, sociability, kindness and charity without judgment. Many thanks to Dr. Lamba, Dr. Kraut, Dr. Embil and Dr. Andrew MacDiarmid who took over his care at the end of his life and the nursing and hospital staff of GD4 and MICU at HSC for all of their loving care of our beloved husband and father. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Church, 315 Monroe Avenue on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 11:00 am.
